เกาะพีพีCliff-ringed lagoons and Maya Bay, an hour from Phuket and Krabi.
The Phi Phi Islands are six limestone islands in the Andaman Sea, part of Krabi province and of Hat Noppharat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park. Only Phi Phi Don is inhabited: a dumbbell-shaped island with a narrow isthmus of shops, hostels and bars between two curved bays, and quiet beaches and resorts around its coast. Uninhabited Phi Phi Leh, close by, holds Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon and Viking Cave.
The scenery is what you come for: sheer cliffs, turquoise bays, long-tail boats and sunsets from the viewpoint above the village. Day trippers from Phuket and Krabi flood in between late morning and mid-afternoon; staying overnight gives you the islands in the early morning and evening, when they're at their best.
There are no cars, and the island was devastated by the 2004 tsunami, but rebuilt. Maya Bay, closed from 2018 to 2022 so the reef could recover, has reopened with strict visitor limits and a ban on swimming.

Shark-friendly

The islands receive thousands of visitors a day. Take your rubbish with you, avoid single-use plastic and don't take shells or coral.
Monkey Beach
