Privacy policy.
Last updated 25 October 2026. This policy covers this website and the Thailand Guide app for Android and iOS, and also our other travel guide apps from the same developer (the city and country guides), which work the same way.
The short version
- No account, no sign-in, no ads and no analytics or advertising tracking.
- The apps never ask for or use your location, contacts, photos or camera.
- Places you save and your settings stay on your device.
- The apps send anonymous crash reports so we can fix bugs, and use a push-notification token if you allow notifications.
- This website sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser.
What the apps send, and to whom
Weather and air quality: Open-Meteo
To show the forecast and air quality, the app asks Open-Meteo for the weather at the destination’s coordinates (for example the centre of Bangkok), never at your own position. Like any web server, Open-Meteo sees your device’s IP address when it answers.
Photos: Wikimedia Commons
Place photos load from Wikimedia’s servers (upload.wikimedia.org), which see your IP address and device type, as for any image on the web. Photos you have opened are cached on your device.
Crash reports: Firebase Crashlytics (Google)
If the app crashes, it sends a crash report to Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service: the error and stack trace, app version, device model, operating-system version, free memory and disk space, whether the device is rooted or jailbroken, and a random installation ID that Crashlytics creates for the app (it is not your advertising ID and is reset if you reinstall). We use these reports only to find and fix bugs, on the basis of our legitimate interest in a working app. Google keeps them for 90 days. See Firebase’s privacy information.
Notifications: Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google)
The app can show occasional news, for example new guides. On Android 13 and later and on iOS it asks for your permission first, and you can turn notifications off at any time in your phone’s settings. To deliver them, Firebase Cloud Messaging gives the app a registration token, and the app subscribes it to one topic named after the guide (for example “travelguide-thailand”). We send the same message to everyone on a topic; we never see a list of tokens or link them to a person. Tapping a notification may open the app or a web page.
Ratings and updates: Google Play and the App Store
The rating prompt and, on Android, in-app updates are shown by Google Play (or Apple’s App Store). They run inside the store’s own service under its privacy policy; we receive no information about you from them.
Links you choose to open
Directions, phone numbers, venue websites and store links open other apps or websites, which have their own privacy policies.
What stays on your device
Saved places and a few preferences (such as where you left off and whether you have been asked about notifications) are stored only on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them. The guide content itself is bundled with the app.
This website
The website is a set of static pages. It uses no cookies, local storage, analytics, advertising or tracking scripts. Search and filters run in your browser. Our hosting provider’s servers receive your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, as for any website, and keep them in short-lived server logs for security and operation. Place photos load from Wikimedia Commons (upload.wikimedia.org). The Google Play and App Store buttons are plain links.
Children
The apps and website are general travel guides, not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Your choices and rights
You can turn off notifications in your phone’s settings and remove all app data by deleting the app. Because we hold no account or profile, there is nothing we can link to you; crash reports and push tokens are processed by Google as described above. If you are in the EU, the UK or another region with data-protection rights, you can ask us about any data relating to you, to correct or delete it, or to object, and you can complain to your local data-protection authority.
Changes
If the apps start doing something new with data, we will update this page and its date before the change ships.
Contact
Questions about privacy: the developer contact on the app’s Google Play page.
